Sibling rivalry on Pete’s part continues because Pete still resents the favoritism Donald received. Pete was used to getting all the attention and all of a sudden it ceased. Pete may have felt that with the birth of Donald, less affection was shown to him. Sibling rivalry may have begun with the birth of Donald as there is a seven year difference between the brothers. On the surface the critical remarks and judgments made by each of them appear to be competitive however, they both are showing the other brother how to live in a more holistic manner. Despite their resentment for one another, brotherly love triumphs over their rivalry. The animosity and sibling rivalry persists between thesebrothers as adults partly because their ideologies on how to live one’s life is different. The friction that stemmed from their youth has not been resolved due to the anger and guilt that has festered up in each of them over the years.
